LIBRARIAN.
General Description:
- Assist in the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures to maintain University’s collections and library circulation.
- Supervise and manage the learning resources and information services, facilitate their integration into all phases of the institution’s curricular and educational offerings, and assist students in their use.
- Develop and maintain quality control mechanisms and procedures that ensure accurate records of library collection and inventories.
- Provide instruction in library skills, research methods and web-based library skills development.
- Direct the Library Management Information System implementation and maintenance (including policy file, security assignments, borrower information loading, documentation, distribution, reports, and troubleshooting).
- Coordinate the maintenance of the reference, circulation and audio-visual collections including quality control, catalog and record maintenance.
- Open, close and secure the Library, ensuring the facility is appropriately staffed during scheduled hours.
- Ensure access to resources and services for all students.
- Establish and maintain up-to-date policy and procedure manuals in appropriate areas.
- Supervise the collection and reporting of statistics utilizing both in-house and state-wide reports in appropriate areas.
- Maintain communication with faculty members and students sufficient to ensure that collections and services support curriculum and research needs.
- Assist in the preparation of reports used by departments for reviews and accreditation, bibliographic guides, and other publications in support of the library’s collections.
- Recommend selection of journals and electronic and digital materials
- Monitor the acquisition budget for assigned subject areas
- As appropriate, initiate orders for materials or refer potential orders to Director of Campus and Academic Services for input and action
- Provide specialized reference and instructional services for faculty and students
- Perform other duties and services as may be assigned or requested.
Work Experience Requirements:
- At least three years of experience in an academic library.
- A record of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
- Library work history should include providing reference services; supporting faculty needs; teaching library skills to students; and using emerging library and instructional technology.
- A record of participating in library and/or technology-related national professional associations such as the American Library Association.
Education Requirements:
- American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the Dewey Decimal systems and Library of Congress system
- Knowledge of automated library systems
- Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in information systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community.
- Ability to think, reason, and make sound judgments on how responsibilities are to be completed in compliance with University standards and guidelines.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff.
- Ability to speak effectively to students, employees, faculty, staff and community groups.
- Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
